Information:

John Joseph Comerford was born on or around the 19 March 1895 in Kilcogy, Co. Cavan; his father was a shopkeeper in the village. John lived in Kilcogy until at least 1911, his mother Margaret had moved to Esker, Co. Longford by the time of his death in 1918 and resided there until her death in 1953.

Prior to his service with the Machine Gun Corps, John served with the Middlesex Regiment and the 6th RCR (Royal Canadian Regiment?), before joining with the Machine Gun Corps at Clydebank, Scotland where he gave his residence as Dalmuir. The exact details of his service and enlistment are not known, as it appears that his service records have not survived.

John was serving in France with the Machine Gun Corps, when he was killed in action during the German Spring Offensive, possibly in Battle of Rosieres, part of Operation Michael. However, John's body was not recovered and his name is inscribed on the Pozieres Memorial near Albert.
