Information:

Thomas was born in Killoe Rectory on the 19 July 1882, to Rev. William Malcolm Foley the then Rector of St Catherine's Killoe, and Elizabeth Pauline Hackett, who sadly died shortly after Thomas's birth. William later remarried Josephine Maude Clarke, the mother of Thomas's younger siblings, and the family moved to Limerick and later Mayo and Louth. By 1901, we believe Thomas was a student at Tipperary Grammar School (now the Abbey CBS), before obtaining a degree in Dublin, (likely Trinity College Dublin).

By 1911 Thomas was living in Finsbury Park, London and working as a teacher in a secondary school.

It appears that he was a cadet with the University of London Officer Training Corps prior to entering war service in May 1916. In September 1916 Thomas was attached to the 7th Leinsters from the 3rd Battalion, and was serving at Givenchy in France, when he went missing-in-action, later presumed killed-in-action during the Battle of Ginchy, east of Guillemont.

Thomas married Monmouth-born Zélie Louise Elizabeth Chollet, in mid-1915 near Hampstead, London; they had one known child together, Sheila (aka Sheelah) Winspeare Foley, born in November 1916.
