Information:

James was born in the townland of Cam, near Edgeworthstown, on or around the 6 Dec 1892*. James was one of nine children, six of whom survived into adulthood. He later emigrated to New York City, arriving on Oct/Nov 1914 on the RMS Cedric, staying with a relative C. Brady in New York; he may have travelled with a relative, Thomas Doyle, as they both gave the same NYC address. James became a US citizen c.1917.

James was conscripted into the US Army in May 1918. He departed from Newport News, Virginia, on the USS Zeelandia for overseas service in France, and from the 25 July 1918, was deployed at (Dijon) Cóte d'Or, where he was attached to the 2nd Pioneers Infantry, L Company, before later being transferred to the 208th MP Coy. James served overseas for approximately one year, and returned on the USS Santa Paula in July 1919.

Parents Names: Son of John Brady and Mary (née Doyle), Cam, Edgeworthstown
Notes: *James gave his date of birth as 26 March 1891 on enlistment in the US Army, however, the date of the 24 December 1893 was included in his naturalisation- documents and the US WW1 Draft. Changing one's age on emigration was not uncommon.
