Information:

Edward Michael Murray was born on or around 21 September 1877 in Cartron Beg outside Longford town, however a birth year of 1890 appears on some of his army documentation. Edward's brother Joe was a rate collector in Longford town, and they also had a brother called Hugh.

Edward joined the Irish Guards for war service and entered the war on the 18 Aug 1915. He was injured in September 1915 near Ginchy, France receiving a gun shot wound through his left wrist and shrapnel injuries to his back. He recouperated in London and Longford before returning to the Front.

Edward was discharged on the 2 September 1918, on medical grounds as a result of the effects of a gas attack. He was awarded a Silver War Badge as a result.

After the War Edward returned to Longford and was a farmer in Cartron Beg. Little more is known about his later life, although he appears to have married a woman named Mary. Edward died in 1959 of natural causes.
