| Information: | Michael was born on or around the 18 January 1894 in Druming, Ardagh, the son Michael Dodd, a National School teacher originally from Co. Sligo, and his wife Bridget Kenny, also a National School teacher, from Co. Longford. He was one of a large family of twelve, nine of which were still alive by 1911. According to his obituary, Michael emigrated to the United States in 1915, and likely worked as a lamp trimmer for the People's Lamp Light Company in Chicago. After the US entered WW1, he enlisted with the US Army on 24 Jun 1918. He served overseas likely departing on the Cretic in Aug 1918, with the 81st (Wildcat) Infantry Division, including seeing action at Meuse-Argonne; Michael returned to the US in Jun 1919. Michael gave his cousin Julia Dodd in Chicago, as his contact. After the war, Michael settled in Chicago, Illinois, before retiring to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1958. Michael died in Corpus Christi in 1972; at the time he was survived by his siblings: Mrs. Juliana Kenny, Kilglass House, Legan; Mrs Mary Elizabeth Finnegan, Ballymahon; Anthony Dodd, Liscahill, Edgeworthstown and Patrick Dodd, Brooklyn, New York. |

| Notes: | Michael was a member of Barracks 1070, World War I Veterans and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union Local 1134. Possibly served with B Coy 306 Ammunition Training, 81st Division. On his WW1 Draft registry, Michael gave his full name as Michael Angelo Dodd, and date of birth as 7 Jan 1893. It was not unusual for emigrants to provide a date of birth different from what is recorded, for various reasons. |
