Louis likely born Lewis Farrell, in Longford on the 21 August 1890, the son of Patrick Farrell and Mary (née McHugh).

Louis enlisted for war service in Longford Barracks, initially serving the Royal Irish before joining a Horse Transport company in the A.S.C. later transfering to the K.R.R.C. He was injured, possibly during the German Spring Offensive of 1918, before succumbing to his wounds. The Longford Leader in an article titled GALLANT LONGFORD BOY'S DEATH

Lewis enlisted with his friend, Patrick Mullen who died in July 1918.  Lewis's brother, Pte John Farrell, was killed in action in 1914; his other brother Francis also served and was taken as a P.O.W., but nevertheless survived the war. The Longford Leader suggested that all five boys enlisted.

Parents Names: Son of Patrick Farrell and Mary (née McHugh) of 4 Cottage, Richmond St., Longford.
Notes: 20502/ It is unclear as to what age Louis/Lewis actually was: although the Commonwealth War Graves Commission officially noted his age as 26, however, they made a glossary note that he was in fact 38 at the time of his death, giving a birth year of 1880. The only closely matching birth for that time period was a Lewis Farrell who was born in 1890, and whose parents were Patrick and Mary Farrell.
