Information: | Edward was born 17 February 1897 in Edgeworthstown and enlisted in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. At the time of his death Pte. Grimes was fighting at Ypres. The battalion relieved the 90th Regiment French Infantry and remained at the front line untill they were relieved 9 April. They had suffered six deaths along with fifthteen wounded. It was durning this action that Pte. Grimes died at the age of 18. |
