Information:

Joseph was born at Ballybranigan, Ballymahon 17 January 1888. Prior to enlisting for the army in Athlone Co. Westmeath Joseph worked as a Labourer.

As part of the 1st Leinsters, Private Ireland fought in the Second Battle of Ypres. The regimental diary for the day of his death notes heavy fighting on the Menin Road, resulting in the deaths of a number of officers and "200 casualties among the rank-and-file".

Parents Names: Son of William and Elizabeth (née Gill) Ireland of Ballybrannigan, Ballymahon.
Notes: Private Ireland had a number of siblings, including a brother called William, and sisters Mary, Maggie, Lizzie and Katie.
