Information: | James was born c.1862 - 1874 in Longford town. At the time of enlistment his brother Henry, who was his next-of-kin was living in St. Mel's Road, Longford. Prior to the war he was working as a labourer, but did have previous military experience, beginning in 1881 when he enlisted with the Royal Irish Rifles and later served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers and then the Leinster Regiment. He also served in the Royal Scots Fusiliers 1893-1905. His pre-war overseas service inlcuded India and Malta. He enlisted at Longford in September 1914. |
Parents Names: | Son of Mary Kennedy Killashee Street (?) , Longford. She remarried and became Mrs.Mary Brennan, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford. |
Notes: | James's and Henry's brother, Michael who was a butcher, was living in St. Michael's Road, Longford in 1911. He was with his wife Mary and their 6 children. It is uncertain what his real age was, as it appears that he shaved years off his age when he re-enlisted in 1893 and again in 1914. |
