William was born c.1891 in Co. Longford and he enlisted in Longford town.

William's death was attributed to syncope, a sudden loss of consciousness or fainting. It is possible that this was due to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome or another underlying medical condition. 

William's brother, Denis, also enlisted for service in WW1.
