Information: | Michael was born in 1894 near Ballymahon. He enlisted in the Leinster Regiment in December 1915 in Mullingar, and later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. During his time in the army, he served in Basra, in what is modern-day Iraq, and returned from there in 1919 when he was discharged. Michael married Winifred McDonagh in August 1914 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. At the time of enlistment they were living in Mullingar, with eldest child (likely called Patrick, b.1914) and later another child (possibly Catherine), b.1916. |
