Information: | John was born c. March 1890 in Ballybrine (Ballybrien), Granard. He was initially a Driver in the Royal Army Service Corps and was discharged in 1915. In April 1917, he enlisted in the South Irish Horse where he worked in warehousing. He married Kate Mulvey in St. Mary's Catholic Church in May 1914. They had 2 children by 1917, John (b.1915 in Granard) and Kathleen (b. 1916 in Manchester). At the time of enlistment he was living in Hulme, Manchester, although his wife and family were in Granard. He was discharged on medical grounds in September 1917. |
