Information: | Patrick was born c.1881 in Co. Longford, possibly in Longford town, but lived in Leith in Edinburgh with his family at the time of his enlistment. Rifleman Burke enlisted in Edinburgh in 1915 and served initially with the King's Own Scottish Borderers before transferring to the Royal Irish Rifles. He first went to the Front in May 1915, but died on the second day of the Battle of Messines on the 8 June 1917, where the 16th (Irish) Division and 36th (Ulster) Division fought side-by-side. |
