Information: Joseph was born c.1887 in Ballymahon and was one of 10 children. He enlisted in Athlone in October 1915. Prior to that he was a mason/bricklayer by trade. Joseph was discharged from the army in February 1916 due to hearing problems.
Parents Names: Son of William and Mary Anne Murphy, Ballymahon.
Notes: Joseph's father, William was a publican in Ballymahon and his mother was a dressmaker.
