Information: Joseph Smyth was born in Ballymahon on 24 June 1885. He emigrated to New York in 1905 and worked as a pipe-fitter. He was married to Clara Smyth, who was from New York. He enlisted in January 1918. By the 1930s they were living in Syracuse, New Yorkand had 4 children: Joseph J, Patrick A., Edward F. and William R.
Parents Names: Son of Joseph and Mary Smyth, Ballymulvey, Ballymahon. Both were wool manufacturers born in Co. Cavan.
