Information:

Michael stated he was born in Co. Longford on the 12th September 1882 in Canadian and US official documentation, although it is probable that he was born on, or around, the 12 Sept 1877 in Ballycloughan, and was baptised on the 17 Sept 1877. He later emigrated to North America prior to WW1; it is believed that he may have first travelled to NY via Boston on the RMS Ivernia on the 1 Oct 1902, travelling with a Patrick Carrig, like his brother. Michael later moved to Ontario, Canada where he was working as a corker.

Michael was drafted to the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), enlisted on 16 April 1918. He was transferred to England from Montréal in Jun 1918, and served in France witht the 102nd Battalion from the 6 Nov 1918 to 3 May 1919, returning to Canada on the RMS Mauretania on the 31 May 1919. Michael gave an address in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, USA on his discharge.

It appears that Michael remained in North America after WW1, although there is some evidence for him returning to Ireland for a period in 1922, and returning via Canada from Belfast in Oct 1923. He likely later moved to Brooklyn, New York, as a US 'Old Man's Draft' in 1941 has someone with similar details, (birth 12 Sep 1878, Longford) resident at 118 Park Place, Brooklyn, NY. However, a Michael Carrigy from Ballycloughan died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Longford, in 1954.

Parents Names: Son of James Carrigy and Catherine (née Farrell), Ballycloughan, Carrickboy, Co. Longford.
Notes: Michael's parents were resident in Ballycloughan in 1911. The Michael Carrigy that emigrated in Oct 1902 gave his cousin Mary Carrigy in Brooklyn as his American contact. Michael appears to have had a US Social Security application submitted c.1937, although two separate SSNs attached.
