Information: | According to army record Robert was born in Longford c.March 1881. Prior to emigrating to Australia in May 1913, Pte Salmon spent 12 years in the Hampshire Regiment, and had served in the Boer War. Prior to reenlistment with the Australian Imperial Force in January 1916, he had spent 6 months with the AIF in New South Wales. His trade was given as military tailor, and had been apprenticed to a Mr. Kenny in Dublin for 7 years. In February 1916, Salmon was promoted to Corporal and was later was transferred to the Reserve, but appears to have left the service by July 1916. Robert was married to Florence Salmon. |
