Information: | Bernard was born in December 1872 in Longford, and he was a musician by trade. Prior to emigrating to the USA he served 7 years with the Royal Irish Fusiliers (1892 - 99). In May 1916 Pte Reilly travelled from Iowa through Fort Erie to enlist in the Canadian OEF, at Bridgeburg, where he was one of a number of men on a similar mission. Here he gave his address as Buffalo, N.Y. In December 1917, he attested to the 2nd Quebec Regiment in Montreal, Canada, where he was classified for work in Canada only. |

Notes: | In one attestment form, dated 7th May 1916 Bernard gives his birthday as the 6 December; on his attestment in December 1917 his birth date is the 26th December. There were two Bernard Reillys born in Longford in 1872 and one was born on the 1st December to John Reilly and Mary Mathews. |
