Information: John Edward Thompson was born 20 April 1888* in Longford town. He was the son of John and Isalbella who were shopkeepers and stationers in 1901; by 1911 Isabella had passed away and John Sr was working as a mason. John Edward was one of four children; he and William were both harness-makers. Prior to enlistment with the COEF Thompson was working as a saddler. Pte Thompson enlisted at Calgary in September 1915.
Parents Names: Son of John and Isabella Thompson, Ballymahon Street, Longford
Notes: The 1911 Census of Ireland suggests that Thompson was born in 1886. Mrs. W.J. Davin (?) of Dublin Street, Longford was given as his next-of-kin.
