Andrew was born in Kinard, Legan, Co Longford,  on or around the 5 March 1888 and registered under the name Andrew Beacon; however it may be noted that he gave different dates of birth during his time in the USA. He arrived in America on 27 March 1912, and appears to have worked as a mechanic.

Andrew enlisted in the U.S. army in March 1918, and was attached to the Aero Squadron, an early iteration of the US Air Force. His appointment to Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas was noted in The Chat newspaper of the 16 Mar 1918, (digital clipping from Newspapers.com) and the Brooklyn Eagle of the 10 Mar 1918. Andrew was discharged from the US Army in June 1919. Andrew become a naturalised citizen during his time with the Army in San Antonio, on the 12 June 1918.

Little more is currently known about Andrew's life, but it appears he remained in Brooklyn after WW1, appearing to be living with his brother Patrick and his family in 1920 and working as a longshoreman. He is also recorded in the  1940 US Federal Census and the so-called 'Old Man's Draft' of 1942 - here he gave his date of birth as 17 Apr 1889.

Andrew died on the 5 May 1967.
