Information: | According to Hugh's US Army Draft, he was born in Co. Longford on or around 23 June 1894, however his military headstone application gives 7 May 1887 as his date of birth, and may have been from Killeshandra, Co. Cavan rather than Co. Longford according other documentation. He later emigrated to New York and worked as a driver for Burns Bros, a New York coal company. Hugh was inducted with the US Army in September 1917 and served with the 157th Depot Brigade until December 1918, when he transferred to a Quartermaster Salvage unit in Camp McClellan in Alabama. He was discharged in January 1919. He married Josephine Hoffmeister in 1918, and they later settled in West Palm Beach, Florida. |

Notes: | May be the same Hugh that became a naturalised citizen after enlising in July 1918. The petition for naturalisation mentions that he was married to a lady from the state of Georgia, Josephine Hofmeister, however it is believed that this gentleman was from Killeshandra, Co. Cavan |
