Henry was born October 1874 in Longford. Pte Ryan, was a past soldier in the Leinster Regiment, and re-enlisted for war service in October 1914, and served overseas in the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, (Egypt), between September 1915 and June 1919.

Henry was the brother-in-law of Pte Andrew Coffey, Royal Irish Regiment, who also served in the Great War.

Parents Names: Son of Patrick Ryan and Margaret (née McDermott), Longford
Notes: In 1901, his uncle James McDermott, was living with the family.
