Information: | Thomas was born 3 April 1897 in Asanagh, near Edgeworthstown. Thomas first enlisted with the Connaught Rangers in December 1913, but was discharged in January 1914 due to being underage. He re-enlisted with the Army Service Corps in November 1914, serving time with the Lahore Division. Monaghan served in France from March 1915. His elder brother James, served with the Leinster Regiment (5145), but died at the Battle of Guillemont on the 3 September 1916. Pte Monaghan initially enlisted with the Connaught Rangers at Boyle in December 1913, but was released in January 1914, as he was not of age. |
