Information: | William Carlon, or Carolan, was born in Granard on or around the 9 May 1877. William typically worked as a labourer, but he did enlist with the Leinster Regiment (No. 7148) in Longford on the 11 Nov 1903, under the name William Carolan, but had been discharged 18 Jan 1904. At this time he noted his next-of-kin was his mother, living in Scotland, address not known, as his father died in 1893.
His brother John "Sonny" Carlon also served in the Great War. He enlisted for war service, but had been discharged by Apr 1916. The Longford Leader stated that Pte Carlon served with the 3rd Leinster Regiment, however, it is difficult to ascertain the Carlons' regiment and regiment number as their records appear to have been destroyed during World War 2. |
