James's father and brothers ran a well-known victuallers (grocery and general provisions shop), in Longford town.

Pte McNamara was mentioned in an article titled Another Young Hero on the 4 November 1916, which mentioned his injuries and his recovery at Edmonton Military Hosptial, North London, (link below).
