Thomas was born on the 30 June 1890 in Cam. He was named after his father, who was known locally as the President of the Mostrim Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and Vice-Chair of the local United Irish League (UIL).
Prior to the War, Thomas served with the 'W' division of the London Metropolitan Police.

Parents Names: Son of Thomas Cunningham and Mary (née McLaughlin), Cam, Edgeworthstown
Notes: We had initially believed that Cpl Cunningham's regimental number was 5542, but this in fact relates to another Thomas Cunningham who was born in in Ballingarry, Co. Tipperary, in 1875. Many thanks to Pat Curran for that information.
