Information: | Patrick was born 1 September 1878 in Aughafin. Patrick had a long career as a soldier, and was recorded as a private in the Rifle Brigade by 1901, although he had left the army by 1911. He reenlisted in August 1914, shortly after the outbreak of the Great War. He was discharged from the Rifle Brigade after a short while and enlisted with the Leinster Regiment, before eventually transferring to the Royal Engineers. Patrick served in France from December 1915 to July 1917; he received a gunshot wound to the hand in September 1916. His army records remark that he was a proficient steam-engine driver. |
