Information: | Joseph was born in Longford - it is unclear what year he was born. He married Bridget Clabby of Clondra, at the chapel in Clondra on the 21 September 1891, and they went on to have a large family. Joseph was a labourer and farmer. Prior to the war, Pte Farrell served with the 6th Rifle Brigade, a militia company based in Longford town. He listed for war service with the Leinster Regiment on the 19 January 1916, giving his age as 45 years. However, he was discharged from the Leinster Regiment 72 days later on the 31 March 1916 at Mullingar* due to his age. He stated that he was under 45, the maximum age for enlistment, but the medical examiners felt he appeared significantly older. |

Notes: | It is likely that Joseph passed away in 1940 in Stonepark, at the given age of 72. |
