Information:

John Joe was born John Joseph Hayden on the 14 March 1893 at the workhouse in Longford. He was one of a large family.

John was a soldier of the Great War, likely serving with the Leinster Regiment; his two brothers Michael and Thomas, also served in WW1 with the Connaught Rangers, and sadly died on the same day. Unfortunately, John Joe's record does not appear to survive so we have limited details of his service, however, we know he entered the war on the Western Front in December 1914, suggesting that he may have been a member of the Army Reserve.

John Joe was discharged from the army on health grounds in July 1920.

John Joe died of myocardial degeneration on the 21 Jun 1921. The Longford Leader of the 25 Jun describes his funeral being attended by over 300 comrades of the Great War, and at which the band of the 9th Lancers played.

Parents Names: Son of John Hayden and Mary (née Tilson), Chapel Street
