Information:

John was born 20 December, 1895 in Tenelough.

Pte Dowler enlisted in Longford, but died of his wounds on the 9 October 1917, likely as a result of wounds attained in the Battle of Poelcapple* in Flanders. 

John's brother, Pte Michael Dowler also of the 1st Irish Guards was killed in action nearly a year earlier in 1916.

 

Parents Names: Son of Bryan Dowler and Bridget (née Mulfall), Tenelough.
Notes: *The crossing of the Brombeek Valley was carried out with the Coldstream Guards and the Newfoundland Regiment. Immediately after the battle, there were 52 men of all ranks dead, 166 wounded and 10 missing. Brother of Michael Dowler, who also died in the war.
